NEEDTOBREATHE, una banda de hermanos que tienes que escuchar!

Cuando piensas en bandas conformadas por hermanos probablemente te vengan a la mente nombres como "Jonas Brothers", "The Jackson 5", por ahí quizá "El dúo Pimpinela" e incluso si te gusta el rock alguna banda como "AC/DC". Pero difícilmente se te ocurra alguna banda cristiana destacable conformada por hermanos.

Needtobreathe es una banda formada en el año 2002 en Carolina del Sur (EE. UU.). Conformada por los hermanos William Stanley "Bear" Rinehart III (voz principal) y Nathaniel Bryant "Bo" Rinehart (guitarrista), el bajista Seth Bolt, y el baterista Joe Stillwell.

Hasta la fecha la banda ha grabado 6 álbumes: Daylight (2006), The Heat (2007), The Outsiders (2009), The Reckoning (2011), Rivers in the Wasteland (2014), y el más reciente Hard Love (2016).

Un dato que no muchos conocen sobre "Bear" es que en el 2002 fue reconocido como el mejor jugador de fútbol americano universitario en Carolina del Sur, carrera a la que renunció para comenzar a formar la banda. No mucho tiempo después reclutó como su guitarrista principal a su hermano "Bo" (quien entonces aspiraba a ser actor).

Con su disco debut "Daylight" lanzado en 2006, a pesar de tener una fuerte inspiración bíblica, la banda no buscaba precisamente usar su música para predicar. Pero sí creían que su música tenía un propósito más profundo que solamente ser reconocida dentro de la industria.

"Sentíamos como si pudiéramos ser un impulso para la gente, como si hubiera algo más importante dentro de lo que estábamos haciendo" dijo Bear, quien ha sido aceptado tanto por las comunidades cristianas como por las del Rock.

A pesar de lo unidos que los hermanos Rinehart habían sido durante años, al incrementar su éxito sus prioridades empezaron a dividirse, distanciando mucho su relación. Entraron en un estancamiento creativo dejando eventualmente incluso de escribir juntos.

Su relación se dañó hasta el punto de solicitar vestidores completamente separados durante sus giras, los hermanos afirman que reunirse durante días festivos en casa de sus padres se había convertido en una completa pesadilla, no se habían siquiera sentado a cenar y ya se encontraban discutiendo.

Bear dijo en una entrevista: "En el escenario, nos gritábamos el uno al otro entre canciones. Incluso tuvimos una pelea hace algún tiempo en la que uno de nosotros terminó en el hospital (no voy a decir quién)... uno se enoja increíblemente cuando algo así sucede, te dices, "¡Se terminó! ¡No quiero hacer esto más!"

Los hermanos se dieron cuenta que habían llegado muy lejos y se disculparon uno al otro, se prometieron no volver a poner los negocios antes que la familia. Luego de esto los hermanos afirman que todo cambió: "empezamos a recuperar nuestra creatividad y en una semana logramos escribir las canciones "Brother" y "Multiplied" (nominada a un Grammy)" .
